IRDS is composed of teams that specialize in Decision Support Services, Institutional Research, Assessment and Testing, Survey Research, Course Evaluations, Program Evaluation, and Strategic Planning.
Some office functions, such as accreditation and strategic planning data support, require the expertise of team members coordinating across all areas of IRDS.

- Institutional rankings updated annually and peer comparisons (this will be a coordinated office responsibility)
- Data to support program reviews, campus accreditation, school and department accreditation (e.g. ABET, ASEE, ABA) (this will be a coordinated office function and much of the data for their accrediting bodies are housed within departments)

Institutional Effectiveness and Survey Research

- Consultation on survey research methodology, survey design, program evaluation, and assessment of student learning
Evaluation and Psychometric Services
- Provide leadership to ensure high-quality services in evaluation, test validation/applied psychometric research, and professional support of educational programs and initiatives to improve student success at IUPUI.
- Collaborate with Associate Deans, Directors, Program Managers and other academic units at IUPUI to provide overall leadership for administering online course evaluations (also known as online course questionnaires or OCQ).
- Work closely with leadership within IRDS to develop and implement reporting tools to track progress toward strategic priorities, and to satisfy requirements of funding agencies such as NSF or the federal government.
- Support IRDS and the IUPUI Testing Center in conducting statistical/psychometric analysis of testing data (including analysis of test data for evidence of reliability and validity).
- Work closely with Departments, Institutes, and Programs at IUPUI to help ensure a consistent, evidence-based approach to program development and evaluation. Whenever necessary, develop partnerships with the campus community to build evaluation capacity and improve decision making through systematic inquiry and processing of educational test or evaluation data.
- Advise faculty/test coordinators on utility of computerized adaptive testing to enhance placement testing at IUPUI.
- Provide faculty or academic support units with psychometric consulting services including test construction, reliability and validity analysis, equating, item analysis, standard setting, item calibration, cut-score determination, and score reporting.
- Collaborate with faculty committees (e.g., PLA Steering Committee) to conceptualize evaluation data or information requirements for compiling appropriate reports in support of faculty and students using Competence-Based Education/Assessment (CBE/A) or Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) options.
- Assist IRDS in building partnerships with the IUPUI Testing Center and IU Office of Online Education to support faculty in ensuring exam integrity and/or in assessing the efficacy of using virtual/online proctoring services to facilitate student assessment.
- Work in partnership with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the IUPUI Testing Center to provide consulting services to support faculty interested in using computer-based tests for classroom testing and/or online course evaluations to facilitate instructional or student learning activities at IUPUI.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the IUPUI Testing Center on reporting placement test scores to facilitate academic advising or institutional research activities at IUPUI.
- Provide faculty or placement test coordinators with professional support in establishing criteria for course placement; and provide support for conducting periodic review of cut scores for course placement at IUPUI.
- Conduct or co-facilitate professional development workshops on educational testing, measurement, and evaluation (including workshops on test construction, item writing, test/item analysis and reporting, and course evaluations/student feedback surveys).
- Evaluation/Assessment: Provide assistance with program evaluation, assessment of student learning, or assist faculty with conducting grant work or projects that include evaluation of educational components.
- Evaluation/Research and Dissemination: Coordinate, manage and disseminate evaluation/research findings to both internal and external audiences.
- Engage and learn from data and evaluation findings, presenting statistical/psychometric data in ways that internal and external stakeholders can utilize.
